MA Research Festival Proposal
Description:
For the research festival, I am thinking of creating an interactive printed publication. I do not have a definite idea in mind yet. However, I am inspired by the following artists:
Ingo Naurer (Maurer, 2019)

Loh Xiang Yun (Loh, n.d.)
Helena Francis (Francis, 2021)
Idea 1 : Publicised silk artist book
The idea which I am leaning towards is to create a silk artist book. I might create two twinning books. One on silk one on a more transparent material, 'encasing fleeting moments'.

I aim to use materiality to convey the message I am also writing about. I do not have a clear idea of what I will present on the pages yet. I am considering presenting the process of my memory drawing, supplemented by other information. If this plan comes to fruition, each page will show case the memory as it builds up. My classmate suggested that I can accompany with a short reflection, I think this is a great idea and one I might implement. I hope as viewers flip through the pages, the feelings of the fleetingness and cyclicality of time and memory is conveyed.
Idea 2: A regular journal on paper
I am thinking of documenting my 14-months artistic journey, offering behind-the scenes information, reflections etc. One idea is to have the papers hanging from the ceiling from a lamp in a dark room.

Another idea is to print a regular book but place it in a circle of silk. This will create a more immersive experience.

In conclusion, I hope that the experience will be interactive. These ideas are just at a very premilinary stage. I have not yet decided how to make the whole experience more exciting. I am not sure if it is allowed, but I was thinking about the possibility of cross-pathway collaboration. Julia from the drawing pathway and I have very similar aesthetics, we were considering embarking on something together. It needs more discussion but I will jot it down here first.
These ideas can also be combined with presentation etc. if any of my classmates would like to collaborate.
